Accordingly, we welcome all applicants who would like to commit themselves, their achievements and productivity to the success of the whole institution.

At the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, Institute of Transport Planning and Road Traffic, the Chair of Traffic and Transport Psychology, subject to the availability of resources, offers a position as

Research Associate (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting September 1, 2025 or at the earliest possible date. The position is limited until December 31, 2027 and comprises 75% of the full-time weekly hours. An increase is generally possible subject to the availability of resources. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification.

Tasks: The successful candidate will independently carry out parts of the joint interdisciplinary project PROTEKT (Platform for Risk Minimization with Open Technologies to Enhance Traffic Safety through Connectivity in the Transport Sector). The project is being conducted in collaboration with the Chairs of Information Technology for Transport Systems (ITVS) and Traffic Process Automation (VPA).

The goal of the project is to develop and test technological solutions that improve the exchange of information between motorized traffic participants and so-called vulnerable road users (particularly cyclists and pedestrians). In this context, the field of traffic psychology is responsible for identifying the specific needs of vulnerable road users. The focus is on determining which concrete traffic situations or interactions involve informational shortcomings that could potentially be addressed through enhanced connectivity with other road users. The effectiveness of the technological solutions developed in the project will then be assessed in terms of their impact on the behavior and safety of these road users.

There is considerable scope for independent initiative and creative input in the execution of these tasks. As a first step, a comprehensive review of the existing literature is planned. This will be followed by surveys and/or observational studies to fill knowledge gaps and identify support needs among vulnerable road users. The evaluation of effectiveness will also include surveys and, where appropriate, field studies.
